Follow and Connect

Two ways to build your network on Arc: follow anyone, or connect with people you know.

Two ways to build your network on Arc: follow anyone, or connect with people you know.

Arc has two kinds of relationship. Follow is one way. Connect is a two way, mutual link. They work together.

Follow (one way)

Following someone means their public posts appear in your feed. You do not need their permission, and following does not let you message them. You can see who you follow and who follows you on your profile and on the Connections page.

To follow someone, open their profile and tap Follow. Tap Following to unfollow. When someone follows you, you get a notification.

Connect (two way)

Connecting is a mutual relationship that you both agree to. It is how you build a trusted network, and connected people can message each other without needing a mutual follow.

Send a connection request

  1. Open someone's profile and tap Connect.
  2. They receive a notification: "[name] wants to connect with you", with Accept and Decline buttons.
  3. If they accept, you are both connected. If they decline, the request quietly disappears and you are not told.

Respond to a request

Open Notifications or the Connections page. On each request tap Accept or Decline. Accepting notifies the other person that you connected.

The Connections page

Find it in the sidebar. It has four tabs:

  • Connected — everyone you are connected with. Message them or remove the connection. Pending requests you have received appear at the top.
  • Followers — people who follow you. Follow back or send a connection request.
  • Following — people you follow. Connect with them or unfollow.
  • Suggestions — people to connect with, based on who your connections are connected to.

Messaging and connections

You can start a conversation with someone if you follow each other, share a Hub, or are connected. This keeps your inbox to people you actually know. See Messaging & safety.

Removing a connection

Either person can remove a connection at any time from the Connections page. The other person is not notified.
