Arc has built-in audio, video and group calls so you can talk to the people you're connected with — without leaving Arc or sharing your phone number.
Who you can call
You can only call people you are connected with on Arc. If you aren't connected yet, send a connection request first; once it's accepted, the call buttons appear. This keeps calling safe — nobody can cold-call you.
Starting a call
There are two easy ways to start a call:
- From a profile. Open the profile of someone you're connected with and tap the audio (phone) or video (camera) button next to Message.
- From a chat. Open your conversation with a connection and tap the phone or camera icon at the top of the thread.
Tap audio for a voice-only call, or video to turn the camera on.
Group calls
In a group conversation, tap Start group call at the top of the thread. Everyone in the group is rung, and anyone who accepts joins the same call. Group calls support up to 10 people.
Answering a call
When someone calls you, a full-screen ringer appears with their name. Tap the green button to accept or the red button to decline. If you decline or miss it, the caller is told.
During a call
- Mute / unmute your microphone at any time.
- On a video call, turn your camera on or off.
- The timer at the top shows how long you've been talking.
- Tap the red end-call button to hang up.
Your call history
Open Calls in the sidebar to see recent calls — incoming, outgoing and missed. Missed and declined calls are shown in red. Tap the call-back button on any row to call that person again.
Privacy and safety
- Calls are only ever between connected members.
- Arc does not record your calls. Recording a call without everyone's consent is not allowed.
- Calls are private to the people on them.
- If someone makes you uncomfortable, you can block them from your connection or their profile — see Messaging & safety.
Troubleshooting
- I can't see call buttons — you can only call connections. Make sure your connection request has been accepted.
- My camera or mic isn't working — check that your browser has permission to use them, then rejoin the call.
- The call won't connect — check your internet connection and try again.
